Generic VoIP Phone Configuration

Please Note: We encourage you to use Yealink phones because they have been fully tested with our service however there are many other SIP compatible phones which may work. Sometimes phones will work correctly with the exception of more advanced features or failover mechanisms. Please note we only provide support and assistance for Yealink branded phones (re-branded Yealink phones are not supported), if you have problems related to other makes of extension phone you are on your own!

Phones configuration is daunting because there are so many settings. The good news is that most of the phones default values are fine, you really only need three settings to get started;

  • SIP Username
  • SIP Password
  • SIP Domain:Port (SIP Domain and SIP Port)

Read the User Extension section to see how to obtain these.

Quick Phone Configuration

  1. Connect and power up the phone according to the manual. If the phone was used before you should reset to factory defaults (see the manual).
  2. Most hardware phones are configured with a web browser (similar to a small router). Get the phones IP address from your routers LAN information page or follow instructions in the phones administration manual.
  3. Using the IP address open the phones administration portal using your web browser.
  4. You will need to login to the phone. Refer to the phones manual for password information (you should reset the administration password later)
  5. Naming conventions across phone brands can vary which can be confusing. Here's a list of common fields with the values they should have (the '/' divides alternative names you might find).
    • Label / Display Name: An arbitrary string used to identify the phone. Your name or extension code can be used here, the value does not affect operation.
    • Register Name / Username / Auth ID / SIP User ID: SIP Username
    • Authenticate/SIP Password : SIP Password
    • SIP Domain/Server/Proxy/Registrar/Host: SIP Domain (Note:Outbound/RTP proxy is not the same thing and should be left empty).
    • SIP Server/Proxy/Registrar/Host Port: SIP Port (Note:If there is no separate field for 'port' then normally the format “Domain:Port” will be required in the host setting).
